The work on the first phase of Doha Metro, scheduled to begin operations by October 2019, is progressing as planned, a town hall meeting of Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) employees has been told. |
The first phase involves three lines - Red, Green and Gold, Abdulla Abdulaziz al-Subaie, managing director and chairman of the executive committee of Qatar Rail, pointed out in his opening address.
The leadership team discussed with the staff the company’s corporate strategy, performance targets and a wide range of strategic initiatives it plans to undertake over the next 18 months.
“Since its inception, Qatar Rail has focused on achieving an ambitious vision of delivering an extremely large and complex rail programme that had taken other nations many decades to achieve,” al-Subaie stated.
“We know that this is not a low-risk strategy, however we have been blessed with the resources that allow us to undertake a programme of this scale as part of our national vision 2030 and to set high objectives for ourselves,” he observed.
According to al-Subaie, Qatar Rail would provide benefits to the community that include safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly alternative means of transportation, savings in travel time, reduced congestion and road traffic, fewer traffic accidents, affordability for passengers, reduced pollution, better connectivity within Qatar and between neighbouring countries; and more business and employment opportunities.
“We will launch intensive awareness campaigns to promote the use of the rail network and encourage people to use the metro as part of their everyday lives. We will achieve our goals through implementing effective project controls and governance, strong performance management, efficient and effective asset life cycle management and a discipline that promote organisation-wide culture of commitment and accountability,” al-Subaie.
Saad al-Muhannadi, CEO of Qatar Rail kicked off the company’s annual business planning process by outlining the strategy execution journey for 2015.
During the meeting, employees from all departments put forward their suggestions, asked questions and received responses from the management around a wide range of topics including Qatar Rail projects, strategy and performance.
The leadership team assured the employees that their feedback would be duly considered and action steps incorporated in the next year’s business plan.
