Members from the Nepalese Prosecution are going to be trained by their Qatari counterparts in Qatari laws, it was announced yesterday at a press conference at the Centre for the Rule of Law and Combating Corruption.

HE Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri, Attorney General and chairman of the board of trustees of the centre, met with his Nepalese counterpart Baburam Kunwar and his team members--- Rajendra Subedi, Badri Parsad Rijal, Daneswor Poudel, Kul Parasad Pandey, Ganga parsad Poudel, Surendra Parsad Shrestha and Sarita Rayima. The acting Nepalese ambassador to Qatar, Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, was also present.

The focus is on training the Nepalese team on Qatari laws. During his speech, HE Dr al-Marri praised Nepalese workers for being intelligent, dedicated and hardworking. He spoke about the bilateral relationship between the two countries and thanked the Nepalese delegation for their visit to Qatar.

He further said that such visits would help to know each other and get more understanding on each other’s countries’ laws. He expressed hope the visit would help to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

He also expressed a desire to visit Nepal and its tourism hubs including Pokhara in the near future. During the proposed visit, he said, he would learn more about Nepalese laws.

Nepalese Attorney Kunwar thanked HE Dr al-Marri for inviting him and the team to Qatar. He hoped the training would help to support criminal investigations in Nepal in the coming days.

He said that his team was excited to learn about the prosecution system of Qatar and would assist the criminal justice scene of Nepal.

He also mentioned that his team was eager to know more about Qatar’s ways of curbing corruption. He invited his Qatari counterpart HE Dr al-Marri and his team for a visit to Nepal.

The first session of the training was moderated by Judge Yasser Refae from the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Centre followed by similar sessions on Qatari judicial system, judicial process, levels of court, Qatari public prosecution and judicial system. 

The team, which is on a five-day visit, will learn more today about the role of the Centre of Judicial Studies in developing judicial education in Qatar from the head of the centre, Mariam El Arab. They will undergo training on the procedures in fighting corruption in Qatar from Dr Anwar Masade (Ahmad Military College) and anti-corruption system objectives in the Qatari law from Dr Ahmed Samir (Faculty of Law, Qatar University).

Tomorrow, the Nepalese team will visit Qatar Foundation’s Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies to know more about Shariah and national legislations in the Qatari judicial system.

On Wednesday, the Nepalese team will visit the Museum of Islamic Art, Qatari courts, tour the city, and visit criminal evidence and crime scene departments.
