After the first edition of the Doha GOALS Forum in 2012, the Doha GOALS community saw a critical need for spaces where children could have access to sports and recreation and an escape from the daily struggles in their communities.
The Doha GOALS Foundation, in partnership with Connor Sports, has built two Sport Court Power Game multipurpose courts — one in Port Gentil, Gabon, and another in Nablus, West Bank, Palestine. The Doha GOALS Sport Fields Initiative provides much-needed access to sport facilities for underprivileged youth in communities around the world.
The Sport Court Power Game multi-purpose pitches is the first initiative to be implemented as a direct result of Doha GOALS 2013. The third installation of the Doha GOALS Sport Fields Initiative is expected in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan.
Doha GOALS, now in its third year, is an annual conference that brings together global leaders and decision makers in sport to create partnerships and initiatives that use sport to tackle pressing social issues around the world. These recently installed courts will provide a free space to encourage sport and enabling communities to come together in regions selected.
In 2014, Doha GOALS will take place on November 3-5 in Doha, Qatar. Confirmed speakers include Boris Becker, Linford Christie, Marion Bartoli and Lord Sebastian Coe.
To learn more about Doha Goals, join the virtual media day on Twitter using the hashtag #DohaGOALS. To ask speakers Boris Becker and Marion Bartoli a question, tweet @DohaGOALS using #AskBoris and #AskMarion respectively.
