The Color Run, the original 5km colour powder race, is coming to Qatar for the first time.
With the help of Sahtak Awalan: Your Health First - the health campaign run by Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), 'the Happiest 5k on the Planet' will take place in Doha on January 24, 2015.
The Color Run is an un-timed fun run where participants or ‘Color Runners’ can run, jog, walk, or even push their children in strollers around the course under a shower of coloured powder.
In Doha, the course will wind its way around Qatar National Convention Centre. The fun continues at the finish line with a Finish Festival.
The Color Run also focuses on promoting healthy living. Over 60% of Color Runners are first-time 5k runners and the event hopes to further Qatar’s commitment to improving health and wellness across the country.
The Color Run Qatar is presented by Sahtak Awalan: Your Health First, initiated by WCMC-Q in association with the Supreme Council of Health and the campaign’s strategic partners, Qatar Foundation, Supreme Education Council, Qatar Petroleum, Occidental Petroleum Qatar, ExxonMobil, and Qatar Olympic Committee.
Since its launch in January 2012, The Color Run has become the single largest event series in the US and is gaining traction around the world with over 100 events and a million participants in 2013 alone.
Greg Sproule, managing director for The Color Run Qatar event organisers, IMG Middle East, added: “The Color Run is a unique event and it is amazing to see the reactions of people who are experiencing it for the first time when we bring it to a new city. Places always sell fast and we are expecting a similar uptake in Qatar, a community so passionate about sport and healthy living, when places go on sale shortly."
