In a one-sided encounter, QALCO trounced Hanan XII by 131 runs to lift the 26th CDC Cricket Tournament 2014 trophy.
Winning the toss Hanan put QALCO to bat first, which looked like a right decision at the end of 10 overs as QALCO were struggling at 76 runs for the loss of five wickets.
However Ifzal played a stellar innings hammering 70 runs off 24 balls including nine sixes and a boundary. In the 19th over, he slammed Nizam for 34 runs including five sixes and a four. QALCO went on to score 203 runs for the loss of 10 wickets. Sarfaraz contributed 30 runs off 18 balls with three sixes and one boundary.
For Hanan, Imran, Aswar and Zamir took 2 wickets each while Rahil, Rauf, and Nizam took a wicket apiece.
In reply, Hanan batting came under pressure from the word go as they were teetering at 61 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the end of 10 overs. They were finally bundled out for 72 runs in the 13th over. Opener Niyamat (16 runs, 2 sixes) and Rauf (10 runs) were the only two Hanan batsmen to get into double figures.
For QALCO, Fareed took four wickets at the cost of mere eight runs, while Abbas took two wickets.
Ifzal was adjudged man of the match for his batting effort in the final. He was also adjudged the Best Wicketkeeper of the Tournament.
Hanan XII’s Imran was given the best batsman award, Delphi Mumbai XII’s Baba picked up the Best Bowler award while QALCO’s Sarfaraz took the Best All-rounder award.
Construction Development Co. (CDC), a sponsor of the Qatar Veteran’s Cricket League, have been sponsoring a tournament every year since the start of the league tournaments in 1988.
At the prize distribution ceremony, CDC’s business development manager Sanjiv Jain was the chief guest.
The ceremony was attended by supporters and well-wishers and over 300 prizes were given away to various players of the tournament. The ceremony ended with a lucky draw for the spectators.
