Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC) will develop Bu-Sulba Logistics Hub, which aims to serve small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Qatar, at an estimated cost of QR685mn.
The Bu-Sulba logistics hub will be a self-contained facility built on 517,376 sqm with planned built-up area exceeding 40% of the total area. It will contain approximately 194 warehousing units of different specs optimised for SMEs, a container yard, staff accommodation, a mosque, a first-aid unit and commercial and other amenities, a company spokesman said in a communiqué to the Qatar Stock Exchange.
“The role that SMEs play in growing and diversifying the economy has been well-established, which has not gone unnoticed by the government authorities, who opened the bid on this land to empower SMEs and provide them with suitable environment to grow,” GWC chairman Sheikh Abdulla bin Fahad bin Jassem bin Jabor al-Thani said.
The company was awarded the contract during the “Manateq Storage Project” launch.
A stronger and more diversified economy supported by the creation and development of SMEs requires the best in logistics solutions. GWC aims to do its part by completing the development of the Bu-Sulba project within the stipulated time frame to accomplish this task, thereby helping these SMEs get on their feet as soon as possible,” he said.
The Bu Sulba site is expected to provide its services to the food and fast moving consumer goods sectors, with distribution mainly catering to the needs of South to Central Doha stretching up to Gharaffa as well as in Wakrah. The company’s experience in offering cold chain storage and transport solutions, among their many other areas of strength, will directly serve the needs of the specific SMEs that will be established at the site.
“GWC has been a key contributor to the country’s most advanced logistics infrastructure, developing key facilities across the nation and serving nearly all industrial verticals,” according to Sheikh Abdulla.
GWC has delivered a long track record of developing and managing bespoke logistics hubs in several strategic and dynamic locations in Qatar, including the Logistics Village Qatar, Ras Laffan Logistics Hub, Messaieed Logistics Hub, and others in the Doha Industrial Area.
