The South Korean ambassador, Chung Keejong, yesterday visited the Qatar Falcons and Hunting Festival being held to Sabkhet Marmi,
near the Sealine area.
Keejong praised the festival as an event focusing on Qatar’s cultural heritage.
Al-Gannas Society president and festival’s chairman Ali bin Khatim al-Mahshadi said the various festival committees have put in
extensive efforts to ensure that the event becomes engaging for participants and entertaining for spectators.
Meanwhile, the 13th round of the Hudud al Tahaddi Challenge is to be held this morning, simultaneously with shooting range shows
to entertain
spectators.
Yesterday’s results included the qualification of Sheikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ali al-Thani and Talib Mohamed Talib al-Marri in the
Hudud al Tahaddi Challenge. Each of the competitors won QR100,000 and qualified for the event’s final round. The eighth Tala’a
event winners included Mohamed Ali al-Marri, Abdulhadi Ubaed Mahran al-Marri and Faisal Mohamed
al Ma’adhid.
In the Hudud al Tahaddi Challenge, falcons seek to obstruct the flight of homing pigeons, especially trained to fly away, and
instead causing them to land. The Tala’a event tests the falcon’s speed and ability to identify the location of its prey, and
involves an electronic hubari bird (bustard) which is placed at a distance of 1km; qualifying time is then counted from the
moment the falcon is released.
The festival runs until
January 31.
