No NBA team is hotter than the Atlanta Hawks. And no one on the Hawks is hotter than Kyle Korver.
Korver drained a season-high seven three-pointers and scored 24 points Saturday night as the Hawks won their 12th straight game, a 107-99 victory over the host Chicago Bulls.
Dominican Republic native Al Horford added 22 points and nine rebounds for Atlanta (33-8), which never trailed en route to its 12th consecutive road win. The Hawks have not lost anywhere since Dec. 26 vs. Milwaukee and have not lost on the road since Dec. 13 at Orlando.
“It’s just been a lot of fun,” said Korver, who made 7-of-9 shots from the arc. “I hope it’s a fun style to watch. It’s a really fun style to play. Everybody touches the ball, everybody passes the ball, everybody sets screens.”
“They don’t have any super-superstars but they have very good players and they love playing with each other and it shows,” said Bulls guard Derrick Rose, who had 23 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
Korver is shooting nearly 52 per cent overall, a league-leading 54 per cent on three-pointers and 92 percent on free throws. He is trying to become the first player in NBA history to shot above 50 per cent both overall and from the arc and 90 per cent from the line.
“I think having teammates look for me and set great screens helps,” Korver said. “And I think in this system, I get to search shots out more. When you shoot the ball with that mentality, I think you shoot it a little bit more aggressive.”
“Kyle just moves and works and finds ways to get a shot,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. “He stays in motion and finds ways to get open.”
Korver, who was traded by the Bulls to the Hawks in 2012, sank a pair of three-pointers early in the second quarter, giving Atlanta a 34-20 lead. Chicago closed within 48-39 at halftime, but Horford had four baskets before Korver made another shot from the arc for a 61-49 advantage in the third quarter.
“Kyle is very clever,” Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. “If you turn your head, he is not going to be in the spot you thought. You always have to maintain vision with him.”
Korver had a rare four-point play early in the fourth quarter to give Atlanta an 80-69 bulge before Chicago rallied behind Rose and Spanish star Pau Gasol, who had 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Paul Millsap and Horford each answered baskets by Gasol with jumpers.  Millsap sank a free throw before blocking a layup by Rose to preserve 102-95 lead with 1:30 left.
“It was a key play for us,” Budenholzer said. “Rose was driving to the rim. Millsap found a way to get by and block it.”
Jeff Teague had 17 points and 11 assists and Millsap scored 16 points for the Hawks, who have won 26 of their last 28 games.
Jimmy Butler scored 15 points for the Bulls (27-15), who have lost five of seven.
Elsewhere: Golden State Warriors 131, Houston Rockets 106: Stephen Curry had 27 points and 11 assists and Klay Thompson scored 27 points for the league-leading Warriors, who held NBA leading scorer James Harden to 12 points and won for the ninth time in 10 games. Dwight Howard had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the host Rockets.
