The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) said it has recalled cargo of Loyd Grossman tomato paste, which was found to contain “limited percentage of wine.”
SCH investigations revealed that the gaffe was traced to a health inspector, who cleared the cargo. But the council clarified that it had already taken “necessary legal procedures” as it reiterated its keenness to guarantee the entry of safe foods by limiting human error.
The council also said it has continued training programmes for health inspectors in the country to raise their efficiency in dealing with updates in the food products market.
In addition, the SCH said it has finalised a new strategy for tighter control on imported food cargo contain multiple items, some of which, reach more than 1,000 types.
The strategy, according to the SCH, “demands the effective co-operation of all the involved parties in the process, especially importers, who are considered accountable for the safety and compliance for the products that they bring into the country.”
The SCH said it also co-ordinates with related agencies for port inspections around the country for smooth and accurate clearance process.
Statistics revealed that the SCH’s control on imported foods “has resulted in the highest levels of safety” as the number of violations prevented totalled around 1,000 cases.
