The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has foiled an attempt to circulate fake currency notes worth 35,000 dirhams with the arrest of a three-member gang, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement Tuesday.
The suspects, including a woman, are of Asian origin.
The Economic Crime Prevention Section at the CID received a tip-off from sources that a woman in abaya was circulating fake currency notes of 500 dirhams in shops.
The information was verified through investigation, which revealed that there were several complaints of similar nature. The probe also pointed to the involvement of a three-member gang, including a woman, in the crime.
The CID arrested the gang members after laying a trap. They confessed to the crime during interrogation, and said they had paid 60,000 rupees in their country to get the fake notes, the statement added.
