Katara holds ‘No War’ exhibition

Stemming from its cultural role in achieving co-existence and peace amongst people, and on the centennial anniversary of the World War I, Katara - the Cultural Village has organised a “No War” gallery, displayed by photographer Haitham Aziz.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti on Tuesday, in building 19 of Katara. A number of diplomats, artists and other dignitaries were present.
In two weeks, the “No War” gallery will showcase photographs depicting the economic, social and military catastrophic consequences of war that began on July 28, 1914 and lasted until November 11, 1918.
The photographs are reprinted from a bi-monthly pictorial newspaper that was published in London during World War I entitled: al Haqiqa, (Truth), and covered all aspects of the war.
Launched in 1916 and ended with the end of the war in 1918, the newspaper was printed by Milford Lane in London and distributed in the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. It included subtitles in Arabic, Turkish, Persian and Hindi.
“This photographic album is a faithful documentary record of some of the great battles that took place at various locations involving millions of troops of some extremely difficult terrains, trenches, cities, air, seas and deserts,” Aziz said.
