US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Geneva yesterday for fresh talks with his Iranian counterpart on Tehran’s nuclear programme, after warning “significant gaps” remain ahead of a key deadline.
World powers are trying to strike a deal with Iran that would prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear bomb in return for an easing of punishing international economic sanctions.
Iran denies its nuclear programme has military objectives.
Kerry finally sat down with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamed Javad Zarif yesterday evening after being delayed for several hours in London.
Kerry had time for a quick stroll in the blistering cold along the shores of Lake Geneva as well as briefings with US negotiators before the talks began around 8:30pm local time.
The two men are expected to continue their discussions today
