Sanna rides Battash to Al Uraiq Cup victory

Mohammed Hamad Ali al-Attiya owned and trained Battash came up with a dazzling performance while clinching the Al Uraiq Cup, a Local Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 70 and below at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club yesterday. Jockey Alberto Sanna was astride the winner, who clocked a smart time of one minute 37.61 seconds for the mile trip. Al Naif Alpha took the second place ahead of Al Shaqab.
Al Murqab Stud’s Truancy (Adrian Nicholls up) made every post a winning one as he raced away to a start to finish victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 70 to 90. The Zohair Moghsen trained Truancy held on gamely to win by a head from a Hymenaios, who posed a serious threat but failed to collar the eventual winner. Rockinante and Carina Palace completed the frame.
Abdulaziz Ali al-Qhathiri owned and trained Red Connect took his first career win in 11 starts. Red Connect was brilliantly ridden by Jockey Marco Monteriso to an impressive victory in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, for three year old only, while Soebroto finished second ahead of Words Of A Prophet.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al-Thani’s Ba’sil (Amer - Somra) showed a clean pair of heels as he posted a pillar to post victory in the Pure Arabian Maiden Plate. The Jullian Smart trainee Ba’sil was ridden by Marco Monteriso. Bahess Des Vialettes finished nine lengths behind the winner.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al-Thani owned Gazwan (Marco Monteriso up) kept at bay the challenge of Vetlana De Faust and won the Pure Arabian Graduation Plate. Haraz Al Naif finished third ahead of West De Faust.
Jassim Mohamed Al Gazali & Sons owned Substantiate came through a rough passage and with a brilliant burst of speed in the final furlong, overhauled the front runner and won the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 55 to 75. The Jassim al-Ghazali trained Substantiate was ridden to victory by jockey Yanis Aouabed.
Khalid Rashid Saif al-Khayarin owned Leafcutter (Marco Monteriso up) scored a comfortable victory in Thoroughbred Graduation Plate. The Mohammed Hussain schooled Leafcutter raced upfront before taking control of the proceedings in the final furlong. Once into top gear, Leafcutter went away to win by one length from the fast finishing Jazz.
Sheail bin Khalifa al-Kuwari owned Fine Prince scored a convincing victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap for horses rated 60 to 80. Jockey Guillambert settled Fine Prince in mid bunch till the bend and started to move up steadily. With about 300 metres left from home Fine Prince took charge and kicked on well till the finished. Mind of Madness finished second ahead of Jubilante.
