A Doha Criminal Court has awarded a one-year jail sentence followed by deportation to an Asian maid for stealing money from her sponsor’s mother, Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The maid was found to have transferred an amount of QR34,000 to her home country though her monthly salary did not exceed QR1,000. The sponsor had accused her of robbing money at intervals from his mother's money safe. However the maid repeatedly denied the charge.
Later, the sponsor discovered a number of receipts of the maid transferring big amounts to her country. She used to claim that the funds were from her own savings and from the gifts that she had been receiving from the members of the house where she used to work. Though, the woman also claimed she borrowed money from another maid, the latter denied giving her any money.
