Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has continued its health education and training efforts for Qatari society members of various ages and from different walks of life by participating in public events and conducting health education lectures and first-aid training courses in different civil society organisations, with a total of 1,110 beneficiaries.
QRC medical staff members were present at the fifth career fair held by Hamad Medical Corporation over three days at the Hospitality Club, Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, with 650 attendees.
A special QRC corner was set up to receive visitors, inform them about QRC and its role in society, train groups of visitors in first aid, distribute diverse health education printouts, recruit volunteers for QRC’s Sixth Disaster Management Camp (to be held in April), give advice on diverse health and preventive topics, perform blood sugar and pressure tests for free, distribute QRC gifts to the public and network with representatives of the participating organisations to expand the community scope of joint work.
Under the QRC School Programme, QRC organised eight lectures on healthy dieting, personal hygiene and first-aid applications. The lectures were attended by 350 students, teachers and parents at several independent schools, including Mesaieed Independent Primary and Preparatory School for Boys, Maimoona Independent Primary School for Girls, Al Shahania Independent Primary and Preparatory School for Boys, Al Wakra Independent Primary School for Girls, Al Quds Model Independent School for Boys, Halima Al Sadia Primary School for Girls, Qatar Independent Preparatory School for Girls and Al Israa Independent Primary School for Girls.
Dr Ahmed Mohamed Dib Adalbi, head of QRC Health Education, was hosted in several episodes of the Learn First Aid series on Qatar Qur’an Radio. He talked about QRC’s medical activities and gave some useful health information of public interest.
Lastly, QRC organised first-aid courses for 110 beneficiaries in different companies and institutions in Qatar, including St Regis Doha, Diplomatic Club and Hello Baby Kindergarten, as well as a surface water rescue training course for the staff of Gulf Supplies and Commercial Services.
The trainees received diverse experience and knowledge, including background information about QRC and basic training in first-aid, surface water rescue and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; how to deal with cases of suffocation, bleeding, injury, fracture, burn, epilepsy, poisoning and heat exhaustion; and techniques of moving injured people.
