A minor fire in the basement of a building that houses banks and other establishments on Bank Street created panic in the area on Tuesday.
The fire, reported around 1. 20 pm, destroyed cartons among other things stored in the basement, inquiries revealed. Several onlookers were seen along the road.
Civil Defence personnel arrived swiftly and prevented any further damage to the complex. The staff at the offices in the building came out on learning about the fire.
Firefighters put out the flames and normalcy was restored in less than 30 minutes, sources said.
