Several flights to and from Doha's Hamad International Airport (HIA) were affected due to inclement weather on Sunday.
Sources said some inbound flights had to be diverted to other airports in the GCC region due to bad weather. Some flights departing the HIA were also rescheduled.
Doha and other places in Qatar witnessed intermittent rains since early Sunday, resulting in waterlogging at several areas and reduced visibility across the country.
Residents who went to the airport to receive their relatives and guests were disappointed to learn about the disruption in the operations.
Similarly, several outbound passengers reportedly got stuck at HIA, not knowing when they would be able to fly out. One of the daily services to an Indian destination that leaves Doha at 8.05pm was rescheduled to depart at 11pm, a spokesperson for Qatar Airways said.
A Qatar Airways travel alert posted on the airline’s website said, “On behalf of Qatar Airways, we would like to apologise to all passengers delayed in Doha due to the unexpected weather conditions. All passengers are being rebooked onto the next available flights.” The source said the situation became normal by noon Sunday.
As per the weather forecast, thundershowers and lightning will continue Monday too and winds will be strong, both on the offshore and onshore areas. Cloudy conditions are expected to diminish visibility across the country Monday. Possibilities are that the visibility may come down to less than 2km.
Monday morning, like that of Sunday, would be cooler and temperatures below 20 Degree Celsius. Compared to the Southern areas, Northern region will be a little more warmer, the Met office has said.
The country is expected to experience minimum and maximum temperatures of 18 and 24C Monday, with a possibility of such climatic conditions extending for another day.
