A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between India's acclaimed healthcare providers Medanta Medicity (New Delhi) and Doha's Humanis Group to set up a 500-bedded super specialty hospital in Qatar.
The signing took place in New Delhi on March 25 during the visit of HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and his official delegation to India.
While prominent Indian heart surgeon and chairman of the Medanta Medicity Dr Naresh Trehan signed documents on behalf of the India-based group, Doha's Prominent NRI and ENT specialist Dr Mohan Thomas represented Humanis Group at the signing.
The ceremony was attended among others by Qatar Minister of Economy HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani, prominent Qatari entrepreneur Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, India's Secretary (East) in the ministry of External Affairs Anil Wadhwa, and Indian ambassador to Qatar Sanjiv Arora.
Earlier at the ceremony Qatar Minister Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim assured Dr Trehan and Dr Thomas of all possible support to make the proposed hospital a reality.
The signatories also met Chief of the Emiri Diwan Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani, Qatar Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Khalid al-Attiya, Minister of Finance HE Ali Shereef al-Emadi and Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada among others.
Dr Thomas said each of the dignitaries present at the signing agreed to provide their wholehearted support for the multi-million dollar hospital project which he said would be designed to meet the fast growing requirements of Qatar, the population of which has grown manifold in less than 12 years. They also highlighted the necessity of making more private investments in the health sector.
The Qatari dignitaries expressed happiness at the services rendered by doctors from India serving in this country .
