Qatar Charity (QC) has started implementing a number of public service projects in Bangladesh for the benefit of 172,000 people at a total cost of around QR4.6mn.
The projects are expected to be completed this year and cover memorisation of the Qur’an, the provision of potable water for domestic use and support for orphans, including housing, food, education, clothing, medical treatment and vocational training, according to a statement.
QC is also implementing health projects, which include the Qatar Hospital and Medical Institute project at a cost of QR560,000, providing health services to 100,000 people and incorporating all forms of treatment, including internal and external clinics, medical laboratory and radiology, in addition to training members of the medical profession.
The trainees will then be sent to work in remote areas, where there is a particular lack of doctors and specialists in radiology and laboratory analysis. This training will provide qualified medical care at a low cost.
A multi-service complex has also been built at a cost of QR2.48mn, benefiting around 60,000 people, incorporating a full school, benefiting 2,000 students at a cost of QR650,000, and a social welfare centre, which cost around QR910,000, benefiting 10,000 people.
QC’s role in sustainable development, through increased production, raising the standard of living and providing the neediest households with an income, is vital, the statement adds.
The organisation is keen to implement viable projects in Bangladesh and expand the number of beneficiaries, helping develop communities and have a positive impact on people’s lives.
QC recently built 72 mosques across Bangladesh at a cost of around QR4mn for the benefit of more than 10,000 people, besides drilling artesian wells at each mosque.
Collective marriages were also arranged for 22 couples who were all orphans. Home kits were distributed to the newlyweds.
QC has also constructed a school for the benefit of more than 1,000 students at a total cost of QR750,000.
