The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has registered 152 violations of consumer protection laws last month.
The majority of these pertained to providing incorrect or misleading descriptions of items on display, not posting information about the product in a clear manner, announcing discounts and sales without prior authorisation and not putting up a price tag in Arabic.
MEC inspectors conduct surprise and regular inspections at outlets across the country to ensure their compliance with the consumer protection laws of Qatar.
The penalties for such violations include administrative closure of an outlet for a temporary period and a fine ranging from QR5,000 to QR30,000.
