The Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE) Index increased by 288.27 points, or 2.53% during the week, to close at 11,699.03. Market capitalisation increased by 2.43% to reach QR632.5bn as compared to QR617.5bn at the end of the previous week. Of the 43 listed companies, 31 companies ended the week higher, while 11 fell and one remained unchanged. Qatar German Company for Medical Devices (QGMD) was the best performing stock for the week, with a gain of 8.7% on 436,573 shares traded. On the other hand, Ooredoo (ORDS) was the worst performing stock with a decline of 3.9% on 547,072 shares traded.
Industries Qatar (IQCD), Ezdan Holding Group (ERES) and QNB Group (QNBK) were the biggest contributors to the weekly index gain. IQCD was the biggest contributor to the index’s weekly gain, contributing 80.6 points to the index’s weekly gain of 288.3 points. ERES contributed 51.3 points to the weekly index gain. Further, QNBK also contributed 47.7 points to the index’s weekly gain. On the other hand, ORDS, Qatar Insurance Co (QATI) and Qatar Islamic Bank (QIBK) contributed negatively to the index. ORDS and QATI shaved off 20.8 and 6.8 points from the index, respectively.
Trading value during the week increased by 5.6% to reach QR1.9bn vs QR1.8bn in the prior week. The Banks & Financial Services sector led the trading value during the week, accounting for 39.0% of the total equity trading value. The Industrials sector was the second biggest contributor to the overall trading value, accounting for 26.1% of the total trading value. QNB Group was the top value traded stock during the week with total traded value of QR217.8mn.
Trading volume decreased by 0.8% to reach 38.4mn shares vs. 38.7mn shares in the prior week. The number of transactions decreased by 7.2% to reach 23,241 transactions versus 25,052 transactions in the prior week. The Banks & Financial Services sector led the trading volume, accounting for 34.9%, followed by the Real Estate sector, which accounted for 27.4% of the overall trading volume. Vodafone Qatar (VFQS) was the top volume traded stock during the week with total traded volume of 4.8mn shares.
Foreign institutions turned bullish during the week with net buying of QR125.3mn vs net selling of QR132.1mn in the prior week. Qatari institutions turned bearish with net selling of QR48.2mn vs net buying of QR92.7mn the week before. Foreign retail investors remained bullish for the week with net buying of QR41.0mn vs net buying of QR31.8mn in the prior week. Qatari retail investors turned bearish with net selling of QR118.1mn vs net buying of QR7.7mn the week before. In 2015 YTD, foreign institutions sold (on a net basis) ~$102mn worth of Qatari equities.
