Qatar University student representative board (QUSRB) has held its biennial elections aiming to engage students on life beyond the classroom and provide them with a significant opportunity to elect their representatives through a democratic voting process.
A total of 92 candidates from all colleges across QU participated, and 15 students were elected as new members of the board.
The new representatives included Halima Ali al-Khawar, Jawahar Mardef al-Marri, Osama Ali Dari, and Mohamed Ahmad al-Marri - College of Arts & Sciences (CAS); Safia Elmubarak Elzain Zaroog and Mohamed Saad al-Khaldi - College of Education; Sara Tariq Abdurhman and Ehab Mohamed Miqdad - College of Engineering (CENG); Amna Jaber al-Marri and Ahmad Nooh al-Thani - College of Law; Maryam Rashid al-Sulaiti and Gaber Algabri al-Ajji - College of Business & Economics; Radoa Abdulla al-Ansari - College of Pharmacy; and Abeer Jehad Almousa and Mohamed Ali Abdulmonem Alabrash - College of Sharia and Islamic Studies.
Dr Omar al-Ansari, QU vice president for student Affairs, welcomed the new members of QUSRB, and thanked the ex-members for their invaluable efforts and contributions in ensuring the board’s objectives and in transmitting students’ thoughts and opinions on issues related to various QU services facilities and resources.
“We are pleased to see our students involved in this democratic process which is a great opportunity for them to choose their own representatives. This year, the number of candidates increased considerably to 92 compared to the last elections. This is due to the online voting through the myBanner Self-Service System, a procedure used for the first time in the elections,” said Dr
al-Ansari.
“This event also highlights QU’s commitment to unlock students’ potential and provide them with the opportunity to excel and achieve, through outstanding support services. It is also an opportunity to integrate and engage students in the campus activities, and help them strengthen links with faculty and exchange their views,” he added.
CAS representative Osama Ali Dari expressed happiness in being chosen to represent his colleagues at the college, and to serve and act in the interest of QU community in general and all students in particular.
“I will work closely with the other members of the board to transmit the challenges that students are facing within their colleges, and help to promote the university’s mission to maintain quality education and academic excellence.”
CENG student Ehab Mohammed Miqdad said: “Being elected gives me a great opportunity to contribute strengthening the links between students and the university, and advance student-faculty exchange.”
