The Eid Charity Foundation (ECF) recently distributed food to 113 economically weaker families after its members went around and collected the excess food items from different locations across Doha.
The noble work was carried out as part of the Food Savings Bank programme, under which excess food items prepared in the country’s company camps and homes and also for celebrations, are collected and distributed among the needy and deserving people.
The Food Savings Bank is based in Madinat Khalifa. The members of the bank usually collect food items and supply them among the residents of some of the 13 densely populated areas where mostly the residents are poor.
Apart from the prepared food items, sometimes the bank supplies dried food items, meat and vegetables also to the poorer residents.
It is reported that the bank distributes at least 25,000 food packets among the poorer people every month.
