Aseel Odeh emerged winner of the 4th Toyota Kid’s Under-16 Rapid Chess Tournament which was conducted by Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros. Co. W.L.L. (AAB) in cooperation with the Qatar Chess Association (QCA).
Adnan Habeb came second, while Ghanem al-Shamari finished second. Aseel is the first girl to win the tournament.
More than 100 schoolchildren from the Qatar and the region took part in the competition which was held at Crowne Plaza Hotel on April 30 and May 1.
The finals and awarding ceremony was held at the AAB Toyota showroom on Saturday.
AAB’S chairman Osama al-Abdulghani, QCA president Khalifa al-Hitmi, QCA secretary general Mohammed al-Medhaiki and QCA executive director Hamad al-Tamimi distributed the awards to the winners.
Speaking on the occasion Osama al-Abdulghani said: “AAB has been supportive of activities that promote and enhance the critical and analytical thinking of the youth.
“We believe that providing them an avenue to develop this skill through chess is a testimony of our commitment.”
