The 49 participants of the Class of 2017 include 29 males and 20 females from 10 nationalities - Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Venezuela, the Philippines, Kuwait, Nigeria, Jordan, Canada and the US. The average age of the class is 31 years, with an average work experience of eight years.
Around 40% of the new participants come from the oil and gas sector in addition to 12% from banking and finance, 10% from telecommunication, 8% from the public sector and 6% from education. The rest of the participants come from the engineering, building and construction, health and social services, travel and tourism, transport and logistics, media and charity sectors.
A reception and dinner was also held in the evening in honour of Class 2017, where Prof Laoucine Kerbache, dean and CEO of HEC Paris in Qatar, Abdulaziz al-Tamimi, a senior process engineer at Qatar Petroleum, and SBUM alumnus from the Class of 2015, delivered keynote speeches.
“We are truly honoured to welcome into the fast-growing HEC Paris family in Qatar this latest batch of participants of our Specialised Master in Strategic Business Unit Management programme,” Prof Kerbache said.
“Since we introduced this programme in Qatar, we have had a tremendous response from aspiring professionals, including a significant number of Qataris and women. This is a clear indication that this programme is aligned with the Qatarisation needs.
“This is reflective of the impact that this programme has on the development of the future leaders of leading business organisations in Qatar, specifically with regard to instilling an entrepreneurial leadership approach and managing business units.”
This year, the Class of 2015 of the SBUM programme had 50 graduates comprising 38 Qataris and 12 expatriates, including 29 male and 21 female. This class has just been honoured at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University convocation along with other students from the schools in Education City.
HEC Paris is the number one ranked school in the world for executive education by Financial Times in 2014.
