The Sheikh Faisal Centre for Arabic was opened at the American School of Doha (ASD) by HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani recently.
He has donated resources for the Centre and for a new Sheikh Faisal Arabic Scholar Programme for all Arabic speaking students.
The opening ceremony was attended by ASD director Dr Deborah Welch, along with the ASD leadership team, Arabic Faculty members, students and members of the Arab Mothers Association.
HE Sheikh Faisal stated that the Centre aims to give ASD students an important Arabic resource at the school.
“The new Arabic Scholar Programme will help them master reading, writing and speaking in their own language to become confident young Arabs when they leave school, giving them an important head start in life. It will then be open to other schools in Qatar to enhance their Arabic syllabus.”
Dr Welch expressed her gratitude to Sheikh Faisal for his donation which will give ASD students an important Arabic heritage resource, and for facilitating the new Arabic Scholar Programme.
“The programme will ensure that our students have the opportunity to excel in their own language.”
At the opening ceremony, Primary students sang a song in Arabic, followed a poetry recital by students in Upper Elementary who had won a Poetry Competition, and Middle High students gave a speech of thanks to Sheikh Faisal. Dr Welch also presented Sheikh Faisal with a plaque of appreciation.
