awarding ceremony
The Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada has underscored the role of academic institutions in the country’s Qatarisation strategy during the 15th Annual Qatarisation Review Meeting.
“Through Qatari human capital development, we will forge pathways that provide our Qatari youth and employees with challenging and significant careers that are keys to building a prosperous future, and will help achieve sustainable development for generations to come,” the minister said as he hailed academic institutions for their “critical support” to the sector’s Qatarisation drive.
Al-Sada also emphasised the importance of a vocational path and encouraged the audience “to do more in expanding efforts to attract and retain Qatari
technicians and increase intake.”
“This is seen as key to determining the success of the energy and industry sector’s Qatarisation programme. I also urge companies to look at the architecture of their work environments with a view to accommodate the growing presence of Qatari women in your
workforce,” he added.
During the meeting, presentations from Maersk Oil Qatar deputy general manager Sheikh Faisal al-Thani, QP executive vice president for human capital Abdulaziz al-Mannai, Bunduq Company administration manager Hyatt al-Shihri, and College of the North Atlantic-Qatar president Dr Ken McLeod provided a high-level review of the sector’s Qatarisation strategy.
The presentations, including an Executive Statistical Report, were delivered before Qatar University president Dr Sheikha Abdulla al-Misnad, Qatar Petroleum president and CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, and senior executives and representatives from each of the 40 participating companies in the sector’s Strategic Qatarisation Plan.
Also, al-Sada and al-Kaabi presided over the “7th Annual Qatarisation Awards” ceremony, which honoured companies that exhibited Qatarisation
excellence in 2014.
The recipients of the Qatarisation Crystal Awards were Oryx GTL for support and liaison with the education sector, Maersk Oil Qatar (supporting Qatarisation), Dolphin Energy (support for training and development), Qatar Petrochemical Company (supporting student sponsorships), and RasGas Company (best Qatarisation progress).
Annual Qatarisation certificates were also presented to Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem) for support and liaison with the education sector, Qatar Steel Company (supporting Qatarisation), Qatar Electricity and Water Company (support for training and development), and Bunduq Company (supporting student sponsorships).
Also, al-Sada honoured Qatar University with the annual “Partnership Award of Appreciation,” in recognition of the university’s active partnership with the energy and industry sector by exchanging knowledge and expertise, and providing a “rich resource” of Qatari candidates in support of company
Qatarisation plans.
