Best practices in the design, delivery, operation and management of world-class sport infrastructure are being discussed at the fifth World Stadium Congress, which concludes today.
The event is hosting specialists in engineering and construction, venue operations and management as well as service providers from the field of sport architecture who have worked behind some of the world’s most inspired sport venues.
Speaking on the occasion, chief business officer of Vodafone Qatar Mahmud Awad stressed that they were “delighted to be among the sponsors of the World Stadium Congress” and highlighted how Machine to Machine (M2M) technology can help public services, stadium designers and event organisers to make the design and management of venues and the delivery of large sport events more efficient and sustainable.
Lead sponsor Ooredoo spearheaded a discussion on building stadium ICT infrastructure from the ground up to leverage the best of technology to enable future-centric smart stadia. A range of other topics was discussed by leading solution providers, including Saint-Gobain, GigaTera and Commscope.
Other speakers include Astad Project Management director (design & construction management) Fahad al-Jahrami, Vodafone’s head of M2M for Southern Europe and the Middle East Tony Guerion, Aspire Zone Logistics venue manager Tariq al-Abdulla, Principal at HKS Architects Paul Hyett, Friends Arena CEO Thomas Perslund, Amsterdam ArenA International director Sander van Stiphout and Melbourne Cricket Ground general manager of facilities Peter Wearne.
World architects, including founder and partner of RFA Fenwick Iribarren Architects Mark Fenwick, director at gmp Architekten Markus Pfisterer, AECOM’s J Parrish and Zaha Hadid Architects’ Jim Heverin participated in a discussion devoted to leadership in sport architecture.
Perslund and Maqbul Dudhia of Dubai Sports City deliberated on the necessity of effective marketing, operations and revenue management strategies.
