Dr Farnam Jahanian has been appointed as a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).
An accomplished scientist and successful entrepreneur, Dr Jahanian was recently named provost of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and has more than 25 years of experience in research and higher education.
QCRI executive director Dr Ahmed K Elmagarmid said Dr Jahanian’s experience and insight will be of great value to QCRI.
Dr Jahanian noted the synergies between QCRI and CMU in advancing the field of computer science, education and research.
“As partner institutions within QF, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and QCRI continue to collaborate on innovative, interdisciplinary projects that will benefit people in this region and the world.”
Dr Jahanian previously served as vice president for research at CMU, where he led the university’s efforts in expanding its world-class research and
innovation ecosystem.
Prior to CMU, Dr Jahanian led the National Science Foundation Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering, US. He also served as co-chair of the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development Subcommittee of the US National Science and Technology Council
Committee on Technology.
