New ID cards to replace RP stickers
New state-of-the-art identity cards will soon replace the stickers presently used to issue or renew residence permits (RPs) of expatriates in Qatar, local Arabic dailies reported yesterday. Quoting sources in the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the dailies said the new ID cards would contain more information and would be accepted as proof of residence and visas at airports abroad when RP holders try to board flights to Qatar. The Interior Ministry will be announcing details of the new arrangement today.

Emir offers condolences
HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani has conveyed the condolences of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, of Saudi Arabia on the death of Princess Jawaher bint Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman al-Saud. The condolences were conveyed as Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz al-Saud met Sheikh Joaan in Riyadh yesterday. Sheikh Joaan also offered his condolences to the princes.

HE Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah yesterday met with the UN secretary-general’s special envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who is visiting Qatar.
