Helpline 107 extended to 21 health centres

QNA/Doha

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has extended the Hayyak Helpline 107 service to 21 health centres. The service first started in June 2014 at five health centres across Qatar.
Qatari citizens and residents can telephone Hayyak helpline number 107 to get information on health services, how to access them and book appointments.
The Hayyak 107 helpline is the first stage in implementing a communication project to provide easier access to services for patients.

Zakat Fund gives QR23mn over past two months

QNA/Doha

The Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ministry’s Zakat Fund announced that the volume of assistance it provided during the  past two months totalled nearly QR23mn.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the Zakat Fund said the amount was distributed to eligible people in accordance with conditions followed in this regard.
The Fund underlined that it responds swiftly to emergency and urgent cases and that it follows specific and precise mechanisms to study the cases and applications before providing the assistance, emphasising respect for privacy and confidentiality of beneficiaries cases.

HBKU invites applications for degree course

Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, has opened applications for the third intake of its Executive Master in Energy and Resources (E&R) programme.
Conducted in partnership with Georgetown University, Texas A&M University, and HEC Paris, courses offer an innovative educational approach to the field of energy and resources by integrating the disciplines of geopolitics, public policy, technology, finance, management, and strategy into study. Designed for high-potential managers and executives, the 16-month programme targets individuals working in areas where the production, consumption or environmental impact of energy and natural resources are likely to affect profits or policy.
Applicants are expected to have a bachelor’s degree, a proven record of professional achievements, and demonstrate potential to assume greater managerial responsibilities. Graduates will receive an Executive Master degree from HBKU.

Expat murdered by compatriots

A Doha Criminal Court is hearing a case pertaining to the murder of an Asian expatriate by two of his compatriots at an under-construction villa, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
Police investigation showed that the two defendants lured the victim into following them to the villa and then attacked him with pieces of wood and a hammer.
While the victim managed to escape to a nearby road, he was chased down by the duo and hit hard with the hammer. He then died. The accused also stole his wallet, which contained QR12,000. The investigation officer told the court that the two defendants went to their accommodation after the incident, washed their clothes and put the hammer and gloves used in the crime inside a plastic bag before dumping it in the sea.

Court upholds verdict over fake degree
The Court of Appeal has upheld a suspended sentence of one-year imprisonment against an Egyptian expatriate for counterfeiting his degree, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported. The court ordered that the sentence will be suspended for three years starting from the date the final ruling was issued. The man was convicted of counterfeiting a university degree and submitting it to a contracting company where he got a job as a civil engineer. The Court of the First Instance had also ordered his deportation on the completion of the sentence. Earlier, the Public Prosecution accused the convict of counterfeiting an official document and attributing it to Cairo University’s Faculty of Engineering. He also counterfeited the official stamps of the Qatar Embassy in Cairo and used the document to land the job, the daily added.

Heya fashion expo ends today
The 7th Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition, organised by Qatar Tourism Authority in collaboration with Design Creationz, will conclude today at the Doha Exhibition Centre.
A women-only event, the timing is from 1pm to 10pm. Thousands of women from Qatar and around the region have visited the exhibition since it opened on Wednesday.
A highlight is the daily fashion shows, held on a 22m long runway.
