‘Garangao Challenge’ for smartphones and tablets

QNB recently launched an application, considered the “first of its kind”, which aims to revive Qatari traditions using the latest smartphone and tablet technology.
The game can be downloaded from the App Store as well as Google Play and can be played as a single player or in a multi-player setting.
It features four characters -- Abdullah, Noura, Salem and Ali -- and a soundtrack that includes the traditional Garangao song.
The new application comes in the form of a video game named “Garangao Challenge”, developed by QNB in co-operation with Idea Media and Modhesh Entertainment.
The app comes as a continuation of QNB’s efforts to create new ideas to commemorate the bank’s annual celebration of the Garangao night during the holy month of Ramadan, according to a statement.
The application is the first of its kind in Qatar and the GCC, the statement notes. It allows children and adults to enjoy a modern game while celebrating Qatari traditions.
QNB will hold a special Garangao celebration on the 13th and 14th of Ramadan in a designated space on the third floor of City Center Doha. Festivities will begin at 7.30pm and continue until midnight. Garangao treats and photography sessions for children with the new game’s characters will be part of the event in addition to various games and activities.
The Garangao treats offered by QNB this year not only include bags of sweet treats -- the bank is also offering people of all ages the chance to download this free application from the App Store and Google Play and have fun with its four characters, who compete to gather the largest amount of sweets and gifts.
The players can advance through the game’s stages every time they gather enough points to complete the levels that merge the beauty of tradition with interactive backgrounds that feature many of Doha’s modern landmarks.
The aim of the game is to guide the character from one place to another while avoiding water obstacles that separate the buildings designed after real Doha landmarks.
The game also features a prominent ATM bearing the QNB logo. Victory is achieved by gathering the largest number of sweets and scoring the most points.
