The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) held yesterday a joint meeting with the importers of vegetables and fruits to discuss the best requirements for the operation of the under construction central markets at Umm Salal, Al Sayliyah and Al Wakrah.
The meeting aimed at studying the suggestions of the importers that could help in attracting traders to undertake their businesses and activities at the new central markets. Besides, such markets are expected to be able to attract the consumers, living on the outskirts of the country.
The importers expressed their appreciation for MEC’s initiative and said that they are ready to co-operate with MEC in any way that achieves the common good of all. They further made some suggestions and remarks regarding the process of easing import and trade. The MEC welcomed such ideas and said it is keen to study them and extend its support for the best possible practices.
MEC and Manateq, the Economic Zones Company, signed contracts for establishing new central markets at Umm Salal, Al Sayliyah and Al Wakrah in March this year, to provide consumers easy access for their daily needs of food products, in addition to other services such as ATMs, commercial outlets and other administrative service buildings for the markets.
