Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed special food baskets among 60 blind people in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
Each beneficiary received a food basket that would satisfy his/her family’s needs during the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative is in line with efforts undertaken to assist people with special needs.
This comes as part of the Iftar project implemented by the QC office in Somalia during Ramadan, according to a statement. The project activities include operating Iftar centres in Mogadishu, Bosaso and Hargeisa, distributing readymade meals for displaced families in camps and activating the Comprehensive Care Programme for sponsored beneficiaries.
The project also includes distributing allowances for sponsored persons, honouring gifted orphan students and organising public celebrations to bring joy and happiness to orphans and the indigent during the holy month.
The activities were attended by the city’s dignitaries and Somali government representatives, headed by an official from Hodan directorate in Banader district.
QC’s office in Somalia distributed the allowances for this year’s quarter before the onset of Ramadan to around 500 Somali families sponsored by QC. The number of sponsored persons in Somalia is around 10,000, including orphans, indigent families, people with special needs, students, teachers, preachers, Imams and others.
The distribution coincided with the advent of the holy month to lessen life’s burdens for the indigent families, the statement adds.
Around 54,000 Somalis benefit from QC’s Iftar project, the Eid Clothes project and Zakat Al Fitr project.
Meanwhile, in Chad, specifically at Dar Al Mo’menat Centre in N’Djamena, the capital, a large number of fasting persons assembled at QC’s fast-breaking banquet.
In addition, QC has distributed - as part of its Iftar project that started at the onset of the holy month - readymade meals and food baskets to indigent beneficiaries.
In the Iftar banquet at Dar Al Mo’menat, sermonic speeches were delivered on issues related to Ramadan.
The fasting persons expressed joy at receiving the meals and the efforts QC exerts to lessen their life burdens. They also expressed happiness at the “spiritual moments overwhelming them” while participating in the Iftar, the statement notes.
QC launched its annual Iftar project at the onset of Ramadan in 40 countries worldwide.
It doubles its efforts to reach out to as many beneficiaries as possible, particularly those in countries witnessing exceptional conditions such as conflicts and natural disasters. This project comes as part of the “Ramadan Al Basma” (Ramadan of Smiles) campaign, benefiting over 2,000,000 people.
