N-KOM achieves 1mn safe man-hours without LTIs

N-KOM and GDI project teams celebrate the completion of 1mn safe man-hours without any lost time incidents for the Al-Safliya liftboat project.

Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine (N-KOM), a joint venture of Nakilat, has completed 1mn safe man-hours without any lost time incidents (LTIs) for its first “built-in-Qatar” liftboat project.
The self-propelled and elevating liftboat is being constructed for Nakilat’s long-time client, Gulf Drilling International (GDI), under a contract awarded to Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma shipyard last year.
Nakilat managing director Abdullah al-Sulaiti said: “Safety is an important cornerstone of our operations and we pride ourselves on maintaining very high standards.
“I would like to commend both the N-KOM and GDI project teams for their commitment and support in making this achievement possible, which is especially significant since this is the first built-in-Qatar liftboat and N-KOM’s first new building project. We will continue this excellent safety track record and deliver to the satisfaction of our client GDI in a safe, timely, and quality manner.”
The LB310-design liftboat can support a wide range of services such as well servicing, commissioning, maintenance, and decommissioning of offshore platforms. The customised liftboat is equipped with two deck cranes, a large open deck space of around 800sq m, a helideck, and accommodation capacity for 130 persons.
It also allows for a specially-designed gangway bridge to link platforms for emergency escape and other safety purposes. The liftboat is currently on track for delivery at the end of this year to GDI.
GDI CEO Mubarak Awaida al-Hajri said: “GDI is pleased with this significant safety accomplishment, which is a testament to Nakilat’s commitment to safety and quality. N-KOM has been a reliable partner in maintaining our fleet of rigs over the past four years and we are confident that once this liftboat is delivered at the end of this year, it will enable us to better serve our customers.”
Nakilat is a Qatari marine transport company providing the essential transportation link in Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chain. Its LNG shipping fleet is the largest in the world, comprising 61 vessels.
