Cebu Pacific Air wants to add more flights

By Joey Aguilar/Staff Reporter

The Philippines’ largest  airline, Cebu Pacific Air wants to add one or two weekly services to Doha “in the near future” to satisfy the demand for low-cost and direct services between Qatar and the Philippines.
Alex Reyes, general manager of Cebu Pacific’s Long Haul Division, told Gulf Times that the response of passengers in both countries has surpassed their expectations since its maiden flight on June 5 this year.
“It is very fulfilling to provide a low-cost option for travelers, so they can work or come home in the soonest possible time,” he said.
Reyes noted that the Philippines and Qatar successfully completed bilateral discussions in June which resulted in the expansion of frequency limits. From eight weekly frequencies, 14 weekly frequencies are now available for each side.
As part of its long term plans, Cebu Pacific is eyeing a daily frequency for its Manila – Doha route.
Reyes thanked Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority which has been very supportive to them especially during their launch phase.
“We look forward to their continued support as we work to sustain the early success of the Manila-Doha route,” he added.
About how the airline copes with the high operational costs but still manage to offer low fares, Reyes noted that low-cost carrier strategy focuses on operational efficiencies. These include having a monoclass cabin or same aircraft type while passengers have the option to choose what amenities they want to pay for.
While Cebu Pacific offers QR688 fares year-round, passengers are encouraged to book early during the airline’s seat sale to avail the best deals. The closer the flight date, the higher the fares.
“Some of our guests have mentioned that their trips with us were booked online, spur-of-the-moment,” Reyes said. “They were motivated to go home for extra visits, because of our very affordable seat sale fares.”
Cebu Pacific expects strong passenger growth, decline in fuel cost and overall profitability to improve this year.
Reyes said they will offer seat sales year round to further stimulate additional travel. He urged travellers to sign up for their loyalty or lifestyle rewards programme through www.getgo.com.ph for them to receive seat sale alerts. Latest updates can also be accessed through its Facebook page.
Cebu Pacific, in partnership with the Philippine embassy in Doha, vowed to help boost tourism into the Philippines by raising awareness about its natural attractions and destinations such as Palawan, Boracay and Cebu to Qatar-based expatriates.
“As the only Philippine carrier flying between Qatar and the Philippines, we take particular pride in welcoming tourists with our trademark Filipino hospitality,” Reyes added.
