Vehicular traffic in the southern part of Metro Manila is expected to ease with the opening of the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX) yesterday.
President Benigno Aquino 3rd led the inauguration of the P2-bn expressway, the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) road project under his administration.
Aquino was the first to drive through the MCX, also known as the Daang Hari-South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Link Road Project. The MCX, a 4-km, four-lane toll road, connects Bacoor, Cavite to the South Luzon Expressway.
“Once fully completed, the road would… improve the overall competitiveness of Region IV-A (CALABARZON) as an investment destination by providing an alternative route to/from Metro Manila and Cavite,” Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.
The MCX will serve as an alternative route from Metro Manila to Cavite and vice versa, cutting travel time by 45 minutes and decongesting traffic in Cavite, Las Pi?as, and Muntinlupa.
It also provides new access to the New Bilibid Prison area in Muntinlupa City, which will soon be redeveloped into a mixed commercial, residential, and institutional estate, Coloma added.
