Anti-Doping Lab Qatar obtains WADA accreditation

Doha: The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s Executive Committee has approved the accreditation of Anti-Doping Lab Qatar (ADLQ) for anti-doping analysis.
ADLQ-Doping Analysis Laboratory (DAL) has now successfully completed the requirements of WADA’s accreditation process, which started in 2014, to become accredited.
The objective of this accreditation process is to ensure that the laboratories meet the highest quality standards, as established in the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL). This includes multiple site visits, participation in WADA’s External Quality Assessment Scheme monitored by the WADA Laboratory Expert Group, and ISO assessment by independent accreditation bodies.
As a result, the Qatari laboratory will become the 35th laboratory in the world currently accredited by WADA.
ADLQ general manager Dr Mohamed al-Sayrafi said that the support extended by Qatar under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has led to developmental efforts in sport in general and anti-doping campaign in particular.
“Qatar is a key player in the sporting world, and so its laboratory will play an increasingly important role in improving the anti-doping analytical capacities in Qatar and the wider Middle East region,” said WADA president Craig Reedie.
ADLQ is a state-of-the-art facility to provide anti-doping testing for athletes across the Gulf region as well as West Asia. Equipped with the most modern technology and a team of specialists from across the world, ADLQ will provide testing for all known forms of doping including testosterone, amphetamines, blood doping (reinfusion), anabolic steroids, EPO, HGH, beta blockers and even the newest form of doping - genetic doping (modifying genes to enhance performance).
