The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has said that the circular issued by it on extending the grace period - until April 2016 - for private insurance companies to cover basic health services for citizens, pertains only to basic health services provided by the National Health Insurance Company (NHIC).
In a statement issued yesterday the SCH said private insurance companies shall have the right to cover additional health services not covered by Seha - the National Health Insurance Scheme - in Qatar, including treatment abroad.
The council has received many inquiries from citizens over telephone and social media about the circular and its impact on the additional health services provided by private insurance companies.
The circular, issued in April to all insurance companies and healthcare services providers in Qatar, contained a package of basic health services provided by Seha.
