The Workers Health Centre at Fereej Abdul Aziz in Doha will be closed as of Saturday and all the medical services transferred to the new Workers Health Centre at Mesaimeer near the Religious Complex.
The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) had issued an advertisement to this effect in the local dailies yesterday. Last year, an official from SCH had announced that the new health centre at Mesaimeer will be run by the Qatar Red Crescent (QRC).
According to the official, the facility will have the capacity to treat about 32,000 workers a month. The health centre, which will also include a Medical Commission for workers, is established as part of a plan to open five workers' health centres, including the one already functional in Doha Industrial Area.
When contacted, an official of QRC told Gulf Times that the Mesaimeer facility will be opened on Saturday. QRC had entered into an agreement with SCH to operate five health centres for workers in the country.
QRC is also operating an emergency centre for workers in the Industrial Area that is dedicated to taking care of injured workers. The emergency centre has doctors and surgeons doing minor procedures, while complicated cases are being transferred to Hamad Medical Corporation.
