QPMC, Oryx Industries in deal for supply of 2mn tonnes of quarry products

QPMC officials led by al-Hammadi (right) and Muri join Oryx executives al-Khashti and Barakat after the agreement signing ceremony.

Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) and Fujairah-based Oryx Industries have signed a deal for the supply of 2mn tonnes of quarry products to support Qatar’s construction boom.
Under the agreement, Oryx will supply QPMC with 2mn tonnes of quarry products over the course of one year and will be delivered to Qatar through the Port of Fujairah, Oryx said in a statement.
The signing ceremony was attended by Oryx Industries general manager Bader al-Khashti, deputy CEO Nasser Barakat, QPMC CEO Eisa al-Hammadi, and legal adviser Abdul Salam Muri.
Al-Khashti said: “We are seeing a strong resurgence in demand for construction projects across the GCC markets, nowhere more notably than in Qatar. Oryx Industries is well-positioned to provide the foundations for the large-scale infrastructure projects that are vital to the country’s long-term vision.
“Qatar Primary Materials Company is on the forefront of facilitating this construction boom. We are delighted to have signed this agreement, and look forward to building a productive, lasting partnership together.”
The demand for building materials in Qatar “is forecast to burgeon amidst a spate of mega infrastructure projects in the country,” he said. A major driver of the construction boom in Qatar is the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Qatar is estimated to spend more than $200bn on building projects ahead of the tournament, including at least eight new sports stadiums. Another is the Doha Metro project, which is expected to see its first phase completed in 2019.
Oryx Industries is the leading group in quarry products, trading stones, ready mix concrete, and industrial transportation. The Fujairah-based company comprises three subsidiaries that produce around 10mn tonnes and trades up to 12mn tonnes of gabbro products. It has a 60% share of ready mix concrete in Fujairah and the eastern coast of the UAE, which the world’s third largest exporter of quarry products.
