Qatar Charity (QC) has signed a strategic partnership with Hemaya Security Solutions Co to hire more than 300 orphans of legal age in Sudan.
The initiative is the first of its kind to be implemented by a charitable organisation, QC said in a statement.
Qatar’s ambassador to Sudan Rashid Abdurrahman al-Naimi, QC’s EDO Faisal Rashid al-Fahida and chief of Hemaya’s government relations department Falih Hamad al-Hajri supervised the launch of interviews.
Some 548 candidates applied for the jobs on offer, 400 of whom were interviewed by al-Hajri. The interviews were held over four days.
A total of 319 applicants were selected to work for Hemaya, 300 of whom were orphans while the remaining came from the orphans’ families.
Al-Naimi praised the co-operation between the Qatari institutions to achieve humanitarian and charitable goals. On his part, al-Fahida commended the outcome of the partnership between Hemaya and QC. Al-Hajri, too, emphasised the company’s willingness to expand its partnership and enhance its work with QC.  
All the interviewees expressed their appreciation and gratitude for Qatar and QC for the initiative, hoping that more orphans and poor families would benefit from it.
The EDO said according to QC’s procedures and regulations, the sponsorship period ends when an orphan attains legal age (18 years). “However, QC never stops helping them until they are financially independent,” it was observed.
QC offers two kinds of services to sponsored children.
First, it provides individual services such as regularly giving money to the sponsored during the sponsorship period and directly supervising a student’s education, health, social behaviour and psychology. In addition, it offers in-kind contributions, such as school bags or Eidya.  
QC also provides group services. These include all the activities carried out by the organisation for a group of sponsored children at the same time. Such services and activities can be cultural, artistic, educational, sporting or entertaining.
Sponsorships depend on the conditions of an orphan. There are sponsorships for children living with a family, those living with a foster family and kids living in an orphanage.
QC is currently sponsoring some 3,489 orphans in eight Sudanese states. It provides them with financial and educational support and also offers cultural and entertaining activities. Besides, as part of last year’s “Rofaqa” (companions) campaign, QC sponsored more than 750 orphans in Sudan.
The organisation sponsors around 85,000 orphans in more than 40 countries around the world.
