Temperature, humidity seen falling in coming days

Temperature and humidity in Qatar are expected to fall faster than expected in the coming fortnight, said Abdullah al-Mannai, head of forecasting at the department of meteorology, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority.
He was interacting with the local media along with the head of observation, Mohamed Jabir al-Merri, on the occasion of a visit by HE the Minister of Transport Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti to the department of meteorology headquarters yesterday.
Al-Mannai said the average temperature for July was slightly lower than in 2014, when the highest temperature of the month was 49.6C. However, unlike in 2014, there were six successive days in July this year when the temperature exceeded 46C, al-Mannai pointed out.
Similarly, last month experienced a marginally lower average temperature compared to the corresponding period in 2014, even though humidity was more this time round, he said.
The meteorology official said the department’s new Marine Centre, which would be of immense help to fishermen and others venturing into the sea, would be formally commissioned within a week in Al Wakrah.
He also informed that work on the Numerical Weather forecasting office building has been completed.
Some of the new offices of the meteorology department would shortly be ready at the new tower coming up in Old Salata, al-Mannai said.
Speaking on the seismic network’s expansion programme, Mohamed Jabir al-Merri said in coming years more than 30 seismic stations would be developed along the country’s highways to facilitate better transport movement in the event of adverse climatic conditions.
