Motorists have been urged to abide by the law and respect the traffic rules.

The Traffic Department refers around 250 cases of violations to the Public Prosecution a month, in addition to other complaints, which are mostly resolved in an amicable manner. This was revealed by Captain Khalid Mubarak al-Kaabi, head of the cases follow up at the Traffic Department.
Quoting an interview published by the Traffic Magazine, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the traffic cases referred to Public Prosecution include those that involve speeding over 180km/h in addition to the cases that come from the traffic investigation departments.
Captain al-Kaabi explained that the section receives a number of reports about harassment on the road, and the vehicle of the offender often gets impounded. Yet, most cases are resolved amicably and rarely reach the prosecution.
The section follows up the cases referred by the various traffic investigation departments around the country regarding issues such as driving while intoxicated, driving without a valid licence, and major road accidents, where there are human injuries or fatalities, speeding over 180km/h, reckless driving and immoral and irresponsible practices. There is a great percentage of cases that are resolved amicably between the parties concerned.
In cases of running over pedestrians, the motorist is usually detained, especially in case of the death of the victim or severe injury.
Captain al-Kaabi said that congested roads and rush could be considered as among the major reasons for accidents and complaints, but he stressed that motorists should abide by the law and respect the traffic rules and drive safely.
