The College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University (QU-CAS) recently hosted a reception at University of Cambridge, UK on the sidelines of the 6th Gulf Research Meeting.
The reception was organised by the College’s Gulf Studies Centre (GSC) at the University of Cambridge Corpus Christi College. Attending the event were QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham, CAS members comprising dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi, associate dean of Research and Graduate Affairs Dr Mohamed Ahmedna, associate dean for Outreach and Engagement Dr Khalifa Alhazaa, and GSC director Dr Abdulla Baabood along with deputy-vice chancellor and Corpus Christi College Master Stuart Laing and University of Cambridge director of Centre of Islamic Studies Prof Yasir Suleiman.
Dr al-Derham said: “Qatar University is continuing to fulfil its role as Qatar’s first national institution of higher education. This has seen us embark on several important initiatives in pursuit of this goal, including the establishment of a Centre for Sustainable Development and a Centre for Humanities and Social Science at the College of Arts and Sciences.”
Dr Mustafawi said: “As part of its efforts to advance education and research in the Gulf region, CAS also established the Gulf Studies Centre and introduced the region’s first Masters and PhD programmes in Gulf Studies. The establishment of the centre came at a time when the Gulf region is in the midst of far-reaching transition, and it was a critical opportunity to expand knowledge about the region and its neighbours.”
The QU delegation was invited the following day to the residence of Master Stuart Laing where further discussions were held on areas of collaboration between Qatar University and Cambridge University.
