HONOURED: Shobhana Menon receiving the Certificate of Commendation from the Minister of Human Resource Development Smrithi Irani.
Shobhana Menon, Headmistress and economics teacher at Ideal Indian School, has been honoured with the prestigious CBSE Best Teacher Award instituted by India’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for her innovative teaching and contributions to the field of education.
Menon is one of 34 teachers and the only one from the Gulf region to receive the coveted award. The award comprises a Certificate of Commendation, Rs50,000 cash and a shawl.
The CBSE Certificate of Commendation said Shobhana Menon was being honoured “in public recognition of her valuable and commendable services rendered to the community for the cause of education as a teacher of outstanding merit.”
The awards were presented by India’s Minister of Human Resource Development Smrithi Irani in a ceremony held in Delhi on September 3. The event was attended by minister of state for HRD, CBSE officials and other dignitaries.
The selection of the awardees is based on the academic efficiency and desire for improvement, genuine interest and reputation in the community, love for children, perseverance and commitment towards the field of education.
Shobhana Menon, who has over 30 years of experience, has formulated challenging and innovative teaching activities that address the diverse needs and interests of students in a multicultural and multinational region. She has researched on the common mistakes students tend to commit in board exams. Over the years she has adopted effective ways to provide clear and concise instructions.
Before joining Ideal Indian School in 1995, Shobhana Menon was a PGT Economics in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Chennai for 10 years. She has also served the school as Head of the Department of Social Sciences, Activity Coordinator and Examination in-charge of the Girls’ Section and Assistant superintendent of the CBSE exam. She is a recipient of Certificates of Appreciation for achieving 100% result with A1 grades in Economics.
School Chairman Khalid Mohammed Ghanem al-Kubaisi, President Dr Hassan Kunhi MP, Principal Syed Shoukath Ali, staff and students of IIS congratulated Menon for the prestigious national recognition.
