HMC to launch CIS in paediatric emergency centres

Doha

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will soon roll out the new Clinical Information System (CIS) across all its Paediatric Emergency Centres (PECs) starting with Airport PEC in October.

The CIS go-live is also being planned in Al Dhaayen, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan and Al Shamal Paediatric Emergency Centres in January, April, June and July 2016 respectively.

Announcing the planned CIS go-live in the PECs, Dr. Khalid al- Ansari, senior consultant in Paediatric Emergency Services and director of Al Sadd PEC said during the go-live the PECs will replace their existing paper patient clinical records system with the new electronic system.

He explained that the new system is aligned with HMC's ongoing efforts to ensure that patients receive the safest and most effective clinical care and will enable staff to monitor clinical and administrative data in a timely and direct manner.

“Clinical, nursing and administrative staff have received training on the operation of CIS in order to ensure the best outcome for patients. The electronic records system will include the patient's healthcare history, medication list, clinical notes and other important information, therefore reducing the time currently needed to access this information in the conventional paper record system. The new system will also reduce the possibility of errors that could occur in manual data recording in the old system,” Dr. al- Ansari said.

He urged the public who seek healthcare services at the PECs to cooperate with staff to ensure proper implementation of the new system. “During the transition to the new system, paediatric patients' parents or guardians are required to update their patients' data and make sure their health cards are valid,” said Dr. al-Ansari.

In anticipation of the CIS go-live, the number of healthcare professionals at Airport PEC has been increased to cope with any possible delay in the data recording process, he added.
