Delegates at the roundtable conference discuss Qatar’s initiative to establish a fund to finance education and rehabilitation programmes for Syrian refugee children.

Qatar has chaired a roundtable meeting in the German capital Berlin to discuss an initiative to establish a fund to finance education and rehabilitation programmes for Syrian refugee children in asylum countries, which was announced by Qatar’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah in Kuwait at the Donor Conference last March.
The Qatari initiative to establish the fund was presented during the meeting by head of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of International Development Dr Ahmed al-Muraikhi.
Qatar’s Ambassador Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed al- Khulaifi hosted the roundtable meeting with the participation of delegations from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, the US, the UK, Germany, Belgium and France as well as the UN, Unicef, UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Reach Out To Asia (Rota).
Qatar’s delegation explained during the meeting the objectives of the initiative, stressing its importance to avoid the loss of an entire generation.
The participating delegations praised the efforts exerted by Qatar to provide relief and assistance to the Syrian people. They also stressed their support for the Qatari initiative.
