Tournament to be at organisational par with Asian Cup

AFC/Doha

Asian Football Confederation Acting General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John has promised the teams competing at next year’s AFC U23 Championship that the tournament’s organisational level will be on a par with the AFC Asian Cup.
Addressing representatives of the participating teams at the opening of the Team Workshop, Dato’ Windsor said all the competition’s organisational aspects will be modelled on the premier continental extravaganza.
The 16-team competition will be played in Doha, Qatar, from January 12 to 30, with the top three teams qualifying for the Rio Olympics later next year.
“With Qatar, who took AFC Asian Cup to a different level with their top-notch organisation in 2011, as hosts, we’re expecting this competition to set another example in terms of organisation,” said Dato’ Windsor.
“This team workshop was designed to provide you with all the organisational information you need for the AFC U23 Championship. I therefore believe you’ll have the necessary information regarding what to expect when you land in Doha.
“The Qatar Local Organising Committee, commercial partners World Sport Group and the AFC’s administration have put in place all the required policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure your smooth participation at the competition,” he added.
The day-long Team Workshop included briefings for team managers, coaches, media officers and officials on relevant matters such as sports integrity, refereeing, media, team services as well as medical information in order to prepare them for the eagerly anticipated U23 Championship.
