Qatar Fertiliser Company (Qafco) will participate in the sixth edition of the Gulf Petrochemicals Association (GPCA) Fertiliser Convention, to be held in Dubai from September 14-16.
Qafco will also sponsor the gala dinner at the event.
The convention is an annual event organised by GPCA’s Fertiliser Committee, currently headed by Khalifa A al-Sowaidi, CEO of Qafco.
The event is part of the committee’s efforts to bring together key regional industry figures, fertiliser consumers and government representatives to exchange information, explore and deliberate key issues regarding food security and long-term strategies regarding fertiliser manufacture and application.
The sixth GPCA Fertiliser Convention programme has been developed to help the global fertiliser industry embrace innovation to ensure efficient and sustainable production in order to contribute to global food security and an environmentally sustainable future.
Qafco will use the convention to help Qatari students from different universities in the country to gain knowledge on the fertiliser industry.
“As part of Qafco’s corporate social responsibility, the company leverages its influence among global institutions to provide opportunities for Qatari youth to develop their knowledge and have firsthand experience with the dynamics of the fertiliser industry,” according to a statement.
Speaking on the initiative, al-Sowaidi said: “Our strategic Qatarisation plan enables us to support the educational sector through partnerships and sponsorships, proactively supporting the training and development of Qatari students.”
Dr Hamed al-Marwani, chief administration officer at Qafco, added: “By sponsoring some of our Qatari students, we expect the students to gain valuable wisdom by participating and interacting with stalwarts of the industry.”
Nominated students representing Qatari institutions such as Qatar University, Texas A&M University at Qatar and College of the North Atlantic–Qatar, as well as Qatari graduate engineers studying in the UK, will participate in the convention.
